About Me

Quilting in the Bridge House!
Hello.  You have reached the quilting blog of Shloe Kerness.  I have been sewing since I was a little girl. I come from a great line of sewers but am not nearly as accomplished as my grandmother who could sew anything.  I bought my first sewing machine just before the arrival of my first daughter who is now in high school.  In fact, I just bought Lauren her own machine as she has caught the bug and I don't like to share!  I love to make quilts for friends and family... just finished a whirlwind year of weddings and now gearing up for the baby showers!  I am particularly fond of vintage quilts made in the 1930's but don't limit myself to traditional designs.  Quilts with happy colors offset on white backgrounds really inspire me the most...

To support my quilting habit, I find it necessary to work (smile). I just started piecing sample quilts for a local quilt shop in Cocoa (The Quilting Folks) and I work full-time teaching elementary courses and supervising interns at the University of Central Florida.  I also have a part-time job on the State Road 3 drawbridge that separates north Merritt Island from the main island (hence the name of my blog).  Working on the bridge allows me a lot of down time to get caught up on all I do... grade papers, write lesson plans, study (did I mention that I am working on a doctorate in education?)... and quilt!  The employee manual clearly states that no bridge tender shall fish from or store fishing equipment on the bridge, but it doesn't say anything about quilting or keeping a sewing machine!  All my quilting friends want a job on the bridge, too!  It's amazing how much I get done when my husband, kids, and dogs can't interrupt me!

My friends, Kathy & Doug, passing through!
I hope you visit my blog often to see what I am working on.  My favorite part of the quilting process is visiting quilting blogs, reading the recycled quilting magazines I collect from my gild, and dreaming up my next masterpiece!  Happy quilting from high above the barge canal!
